Rootio
Smart community radio (cloud/telephony/FM)
About Rootio
RootIO is building a platform that allows for the automation and centralization of routine FM radio operations to facilitate the proliferation of ultra-low power FM radio stations. At its most basic, the RootIO platform is constituted by broadcast points -- an android phone playing audio content into a 50 Watt FM transmitter, serving a ~12KM radius, and a cloud based web server (Python flask, Apache, Postgres) that is telephony-enabled (Freeswitch). The web platform allows for the upload, sourcing and scheduling of content that is later synced to remote broadcast points for transmission to surrounding communities. In this way, FM stations do not need studios, can be managed remotely and require less manpower to operate.
To achieve these, the RootIO platform depends on software components both on the transmission site (Android App) and the cloud (Python Flask, Python Freeswitch API) which we are constantly tweaking and improving to bring better features to RootIO stations.
This is the savoury challenge of the software engineer position for which we are currently recruiting. Ideally, this would be someone with experience building large systems and APIs on *nix platforms as well as mobile apps that interact with them.
