Blip Web Engineers — Welcome aboard #LandingjobsFest!

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and Blip just became ours.

Unlocking tech talent stories

May 10, 2016

Our Diamond Sponsor for the Landing.jobs Festival, that is. That means they’ll have one of our two sailboats exclusively for them to hire the best tech candidates. And trust us when we say it’s pretty much a guarantee that you’ll love working with them.

The Porto-born team say it themselves: Blip has a different way of doing things.

Blip is a software engineering company founded back in 2009 by two software engineers. Since the beginning, they’ve developed web applications and services for online betting, specifically for Exchange, a Betfair website.

Their open space in the heart of the city of Porto, embraced by the Douro, always has an informal environment paired with very demanding work. A natural balance, really, when you realise their computers process more transactions daily than the whole European stock exchange. In the 20 minutes it has taken me to write this post thus far, they’ve processed over 87.000 transactions. Goodness.

To face this enormous amount of traffic, their team develops stable products which are capable of supporting thousands of users from around the world who every day bet on various sporting events. They all depend on Blip’s software and expertise to fulfill their technology-dependent diversion (and, at times, occupation).

Classy meets the future.

It was back in 2012 that Blip took a turn for greatness. At the time, London-based Betfair, the world’s largest internet betting exchange, was their main client. The group acquired Blip and became their exclusive client, all while preserving its identity and raising their team to 101 blippers, as team members call themselves. Since then, they’ve invested €25M in the company.

But what makes Blip sexy apart from this exhilarating responsibility? Quite a lot. Last year, they were considered one of the best companies to work at in Portugal. Why? Because of the strong focus on their culture and how they care for their blippers.

Expecto Bliponum!

Everyone is given a lot of autonomy by being allowed to manage their own time and working schedule. Swooping along the office in slippers on top of a scooter and taking a break to play some Playstation? Perfectly acceptable and encouraged. A nap room, yoga classes and breakfast every morning? You betcha. We bet work hard, play hard is their motto. 💪

If you happen to be an engineer and a woman, they have a treat for you — or a few:

Yep. After an intense day of being one of the engineers clacking away on your keyboard, you can get your nails done or a relaxing massage. Also, we thought we were crazy different for launching a sardine into space in one late afternoon during last year’s Festival. Blippers have meetings every day in a stagecoach. A STAGECOACH.

Stagecoach

“I shall meet you in the stagecoach to go over next fortnight’s sprint, my good sir.”

This perfect work-life balance is what keeps attracting great talents to Blip, whose main focus is to process billions of sporting bets every year, and who is rapidly becoming one of the best companies to work at, period. Today, they have headquarters in London and employ over 200 blippers.

Working at Blip is a unique experience because you feel part of the whole world with your feet firmly at home. It’s welcoming, inspiring, and technologically challenging.

Our friends at Blip are very excited to come aboard the Landing.jobs Festival, and are looking forward to the opportunity to share a common space with companies and professionals who live with the same passion for technology as they do.
