Landing.Tech #9 — The Verge Tech Survey 2020

AI improving our daily life once again!

Unlocking tech talent stories

March 6, 2020

It’s March, and that means that Spring is just around the corner. If you’re fortunate enough to live in a country with a Mediterranean climate like we in Portugal, you know that the cold weather should start going away now. Unfortunately, what seems to have arrived in Europe, is the already well-known COVID-19. We hope that this issue is quickly solved and stops getting all the headlines. But let’s try to focus on what happened in Tech this week:

But how? They launched it at the end of 2019, and it “uses a distinct TensorFlow deep-learning model trained with TFX (TensorFlow Extended) and a custom document analyzer for each file type. The document analyzers are responsible for parsing the document, identifying common attack patterns, extracting macros, deobfuscating content, and performing feature extraction.” You can read all the other details on the link, but here’s AI improving our daily life once again!

The Verge conducted a tech survey this year, due to the election that’s coming in November in the USA. The results are interesting and here are the ones we would like to point out. 56 percent of people said the government should break up tech companies, 72 percent said Facebook has way too much power and Amazon remains popular with the country, even with the latest Jeff Bezos’ news. Any surprise in the results for you?

Amazon is expanding its cashier-less groceries and they opened their first store in Seattle this week. It’s not a new thing but it’s always interesting to remember how the use of overhead cameras and computer vision technology can track items throughout the store. The system also handles tricky situations like customers handling unpackaged produce that looks similar and sits next to other fruits and vegetables or unboxed baked goods that might get stuffed into a single plastic bag. We want to visit one soon, what about you?

If you’re already one of the people reading this from home due to the flexible remote policies to contain the virus outbreak, let’s use this time to be productive and show the work that working from home is part of the future of work. That’s something we believe here at Landing.Jobs and if you didn’t know it, we’re sharing this with you. Einstein was “working from home” when he changed the world. Why can’t you do the same?

The future starts today.
