We can already see the trend that until the USA elections are out of the way, most of the news will be about Tech & Politics. Data Privacy, Taxing Tech Companies, and other topics are all around, you simply cannot escape them. However, this week had an interesting development on the society/political side of Tech. That’s one of the news we are especially pointing today, and you know what, let’s start by that one:
That’s right, Kickstarter employees will be the ones, the first white-collar tech workers to unionize in the USA. After back and forth pressure from the company management team, the employees held a vote with the result ending in a 46–37 in favor. Will this be the first step towards a more regulated and balanced tech industry?
You read it correctly, yes. Using a fully connected artificial neural network, this study identified asteroids with the potential to impact Earth. If you’re a Twitter user like I am, I’m pretty sure you’ve watched all this unfold. It all started with a @ZacSweers tweet to fight against pay inequalities in tech, especially for underrepresented groups, and what followed was a global movement of people sharing their level of studies, years of experience, role, location, and income. On the link above you can find all the data collected from it. There are some interesting conclusions you can reach after checking it. While you’re still with us, we would also like to mark the death of Larry Tesler. If you don’t know who he is, that’s the computer scientist behind some of the commands you use the most during your work day. “Cut”, “Copy”, “Paste”, among other commands are an example of the legacy he leaves behind in making computer systems more user-friendly.
