Tech recruitment i̵s̵ ̵g̵r̵e̵a̵t̵ sucks.
Big time.
The processes are too long. We’re tired of jumping hoops and loops, one slow step at a time when we could be marching forward together.
They’re too opaque. If we can’t see through what is happening on the other end, on the backend, it makes us think companies have something to hide. Feedback is too little, too late, both of them or none at all. And there’s a greater shortage of empathy than Tech Talent on the market.
This has to change. So why don’t we start with the basics?
Be faster.
We want fewer steps, fewer interviews, no more marathon-tests and most importantly: shorter waiting periods between stages. The sooner we start, the more we’ll do. And we have a lot to do.
Be transparent.
We want jobs with company name, location (if any), salary expectations and perks all upfront. All for real. Be open about what you’ve got! It saves your resources to find the perfect fit. And it means we don’t waste our time applying for jobs we’re not interested in.
Be respectful.
Most of us are good with numbers. That doesn’t mean we like being treated like numbers. Empathy matters to us. Talk to us seriously. Deal with us fairly. Finding or changing jobs is an intense process that almost feels like a second job: handle it respectfully.
Be engaging.
Feedback is as important to us on the job as it is in the process of finding it. Give it to us. Make it relevant, insightful and soon after each stage. If we’re hired, we’ll walk in with trust and respect established from day one. And if we’re not, we’ll be able to contribute to the bigger picture.
These are our four pillars for a new paradigm in tech recruitment.
We believe we are not alone in this quest and we want this petition to be an eye-opener for companies all over the world. Let’s make our voices heard!
