The warm and sunny Portuguese summer is shining and has just arrived. While most of the year has been a complete roller coaster, some things don’t seem to change and the happiness I feel when the months of July and August arrive is one of them. On a week that brought a Facebook being the target of a boycott, here are other interesting developments that we read on the news:
Some things will never be the same and the importance we give to sanitation and hygiene is one of them. We all are aware that we need to wash our hands frequently and so it’s only natural that we start seeing automation in that area as well. MIT is trying to help, and making complex spaces easier to sanitize. Is sanitation an area where we will see new technology being applied to?
If you don’t know North, they received a lot of media attention after releasing Focals 1.0, considered the most consumer-friendly wearable-glasses-computing-interface ever launched. They were getting ready to release Focals 2.0 but with this acquisition that won’t happen now. Google Glass has been around for some time now, but is it now that they’ll reach a more broad audience?
The payment features of WhatsApp were suspended in Brazil by their Central Bank and the antitrust regulator. With a market with more than 120 million users, the decision was made to “preserve and adequate competitive environment”. This is just another setback for Facebook since they were only starting testing the feature in Brazil. Hard week Facebook, no?
When everything else fails we can still count on the sun to bring us a smile. At least for now, it happens. So let’s all make our part in making sure that we treat nature with the respect it deserves. Do you imagine living in a world without the sun? I don’t and I hope you agree with me. See you next week.
The future starts today.
