Senior Backend Engineer

About the RoleWe are looking for a highly experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join a fast-growing international scale-up at the intersection of technology and sustainability.

This is a senior position where you will be responsible for solution design, software architecture, and providing technical leadership across teams.

What You’ll Do

• Work on the architecture and solution design of backend systems supporting high-impact products.
• Build and scale event-driven microservices, ensuring reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Design robust and efficient APIs using GraphQL (Apollo) and modern backend patterns.
• Develop systems capable of streaming and processing large volumes of data through Kafka.
• Own database design and optimization, working with both PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• Drive engineering best practices around code quality, performance tuning, and scalable architecture.
• Act as a senior technical reference, influencing decisions across teams and stakeholders.
• Support the growth of products in a company scaling rapidly across Europe.

• Strong backend engineering experience, with deep expertise in TypeScript and Node.js (NestJS).
• Extensive experience designing and building scalable event-driven microservice architectures.
• Solid understanding and practical application of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar messaging/streaming platforms.
• Strong knowledge of databases, both relational (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB).
• Proven ability to make senior-level technical decisions on API design, data streaming, schema modeling, and performance optimization.
• High standards for code quality, maintainability, and engineering excellence.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional engineering environments.
