Your Team

Our Data Science team is responsible for turning data into services and products for XING. Around 20 Data scientists, architects and engineers work together to create highly scalable solutions that serve more than 15 million users. We work with the latest technologies in a highly international environment. If you want to get things done rather than sit in meetings, like helping others and learning from them, you will have fun in our team!

Your task

As a Data Scientist you will perform complex and intelligent analyses of XING’s data to identify new service and product opportunities. The implementation of services that handle massive amounts of data and a high number of concurrent users as well as solving challenging problems related to search, recommender systems and other data-driven products is also part of your job. You will have the opportunity to use state of the art technologies and work on products that are used by millions of users everyday!

Main requirements

  • solid programming skills in Scala
  • experience in Hadoop (including Hive, Pig or Mahout)
  • experience in statistical programming environments (R in particular)
  • strong theoretical and practical knowledge of statistics, data mining, machine learning and scalable algorithms
  • hands-on experience in exploring large datasets
  • MSc or PhD in statistics, maths, computer science or a similar discipline
  • fluent English

Nice to have

At least 1 year of industrial experience as a data scientist or a similar position in the field of data mining or at least one paper at one of the top tier conferences (WSDM, SIGKDD, ICDM, SIGIR, WWW, SIGMOD, VLDB or ICDE) are a big plus.
