At Web Summit, we apply technology and data to an analog industry creating the largest technology conference in the world. Data drives our attendee experience, as we connect attendees with the people they should meet based on their needs. My background is from YCombinator 09. I want to learn from you.

Who you are:

  • Ideally, you have been CTO or lead developer at your own startup or current job.
  • You have shipped product in the past and can take leadership. Users love what you make. Be able to prove this.
  • You can explain the difference between scaling and growth.
  • You care deeply about engineering culture and the quality of products you and your team build. You know who you want to learn from.
  • You drive change actively as you believe everything can be constantly improved and challenged.
  • Attends JS meetups as you are naturally curious. Better still, you are an active speaker at them.

What you’ll achieve at Web Summit:

  • You’ll contribute to the architecture and development direction of the team to ensure quality code is written and excellent products are built. My role is to remove all blockers from you doing your best work.
  • Our stack is mainly AngularJS 1.5/Rails 5/AWS and you will be deploying code from Day 1.
  • Your network is your greatest long-term strength. At Web Summit, we have the strongest network of people to meet and learn from via our conferences, world-wide.
  • You’ll collaborate and learn with other team members via mentoring, code reviews, and technical talks.
  • A startup that dares to do it differently. We never raised funding and yet employ 140 people. We innovate on the attendee experience and not on the business model. We control our roadmap.

Main requirements

  • 3+ years of experience developing on JavaScript, or creating a popular JS repo in use
  • Ability to show you can take ownership
  • Ability to be able to teach and learn from co-workers

Nice to have

  • Open source contributions to a project in Javascript
