Intro

About the team

Our growth has largely been propelled due to our data science team and the application of network science. While most conference companies hire event managers, we hire physicists with PhDs in areas like complex systems and network analysis. We're a technology company disrupting an antiquated industry, building software that is helping us launch, scale and improve conferences at an ever-increasing pace all over the world.

Who you are:

  • You're a numerically minded and inventive person.
  • You relish challenges and live to find elegant and powerful solutions to difficult problems.
  • You love working in a fast-paced environment with varied and rapidly changing goals.
  • You're interested in network analysis, machine learning and big data.

What you’ll achieve at Web Summit:

  • You will work on a myriad of projects. These include matching conference attendees to each other, analysing huge amounts of social network data and algorithmically optimising advertising campaigns.
  • You will have large autonomy within your own projects, and be directly responsible for improving the technology behind Web Summit conferences.
  • You will work with some of the brightest minds in the industry on global events including RISE, Collision and SURGE.

Main requirements

  • A MSc or PhD in a numerical field: physics, mathematics, computer science (or a BSc and 5 years relevant experience in a data science role).
  • Experience working with large datasets and imperfect data
  • Extensive knowledge of python and the python numerical stack (scipy/numpy, pandas) strongly preferred
  • Experience with network analysis and machine learning a significant benefit (networkx, Gephi, R, MATLAB).
  • Open source portfolio on GitHub/Bitbucket/GitLab or similar.
  • Familiarity with Linux/UNIX systems and toolchains

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Neo4J (or other graph databases), Amazon Web Services (including EC2, and SQS) and server provisioning tools
