In general, as a Full Stack Engineer in TransferWise you will work towards making our product the best that it can be. On one hand you will do this by solving technical puzzles, working on automation, scalability and speed related topics. However, on the other hand, you will do this by figuring out what are the best product decisions based on feedback we get from our great customers. You'll be forced to think how we can get that feedback (and most important how we can get the most relevant feedback), how we can develop our product in such a way in which will boost future development, and how we can maximise and track the impact of our product in the life of our customers.

You will collaborate with Product Managers, UX and design experts, data scientists and other developers to work towards one unified goal - growth. But along the way you'll always keep in mind that our Product Engineering team is customer focussed to it’s core so you'll also be making sure that the user journey is as precise and delightful as it can be. This means that you are more than a coder who picks up tickets from a backlog and push code to production. You are a product engineer that empathises with our customers problems, develops solutions accordingly and measures results.

And you will do this within a flat organisational structure meaning you'll be someone who is unconcerned with titles and hierarchy. What really excites you is problem solving and delivering innovative technology that makes a real difference in people's lives.

What you’ll be working on more specifically:

TransferWise is complex under the hood but we’re just getting started. With our own payment rails, there are lots of opportunities to build new products and services on them.
At its core, our stack is Java Microservices, using Netflix OSS offerings and SPAs written in Angular 1/React, with a legacy Grails monolith. We are moving quickly to proven distributed technologies that can be scaled (Kafka, Zookeeper, Eureka, Bouncer and much more)
We’re integrating with a variety of partners and providers across the world so our customers can send money across borders with minimal fuss and maximum confidence.

Main requirements

  • Preferably strong background with Java and SpringBoot
  • Experience with Microservices and in using a back-end MVC Framework in a dynamic language, preferably Groovy and/or Grails
  • Experience developing in HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Hands-on experience with developing in a modern front end framework - Angular.Js is preferred but others are not a show stopper
  • Good with MySQL and other database management systems - preferably PostgreSQL
  • Exposure to Test Driven Development (TDD), A/B testing and Minimum Viable Product (MVP) approaches & concepts

Nice to have

  • Passionate about technology and it’s relationship with business and user experience
  • Ability to work independently and plan your own solutions to problems
  • Customer is at the heart of everything you do and that empathy drives every decision you make
  • A "Clean Code” mindset, a start-up background and with exposure to FinTech stuff
  • Open to travel and work with Engineering teams from UK, Estonia and/or Hungary
  • Be a customer of TransferWise

Cool enough? Then come along, bring your talent and we will empower you to engineer great stuff!

Apart from the all - expenses - paid company holiday once per year (which is completely insane), you will get a really competitive salary package, stock options in one of Europe’s most hotly tipped startups, a personal development budget, flexible working hours, a sexy laptop, free team lunches and of course, a very cool office.

You won’t get much in the way of extras. However, we will give you a fun, friendly atmosphere, plenty of opportunities to grow and the chance to impact people's lives through our revolution.
