Touch Surgery is looking for a Backend Chapter Lead. Someone that loves to get things done while understanding how to build products that will stand the test of time. An engineer that wants to lead a team that is building tools that are used by surgeons and medical professionals around the globe. At Touch Surgery you will be working in a continuously integrated, continuously deployed environment, with a diverse range of people from around the world. You’ll be working alongside data scientists, animators, 3d artists, and machine learning experts. We care about both the quality of what we’re making and the quality of life of our team.

As a lead of the backend chapter you’ll be working to deliver our surgical content to millions of users and building the future products that will enable surgeons around the world to work more efficiently. Our backend stack is Django talking to Postgresql, Redis, and Celery, on Ubuntu, on AWS. With the bulk of our data streaming in via kinesis to Redshift.

You will work on a range tasks such as:-

  • Communicating with other team leads to identify bottlenecks and dependencies.
  • Monitor the overall health of the tech stack and give technical direction.
  • Develop web and cloud based backend systems for asset management and tracking.

  • Develop and maintain software development processes and tooling.

  • Document tools and train staff in best practice usage.

  • Provide technical guidance and manage a number of developers.

Main requirements

  • An excellent grasp of your favourite language, which is either Python, or a willingness to learn Python.
  • Experience working with teams to create highly performant and user friendly RESTful services.
  • Comfortable using Linux and orchestration frameworks.
  • Familiar and capable of managing relational databases.
  • Experience managing teams
  • Have mastered a web framework.
  • Good communication and management skills.
  • A desire to keep learning and developing your skills.
