This Place is a digital studio in Shoreditch, London, Seattle and Tokyo. Our focus is UI/UX and how it can be used to improve digital experience on web, mobile, tablet and wearable devices. We are passionate about all things digital and enjoy working with a series of influential global brands. In addition to client projects we also focus some of our time on applying our passion to new products and evolving technologies.

This is an opportunity for an experienced developer with 6 or more years experience and an ambition to grow within a management track, to join our development team of 5 developers. Your job will be to lead, guide and inspire a team to build great online products from back-end to front-end. This is a hands-on role, so you should be comfortable getting involved in architecting as well as actually implementing.

You will report to the Technology Director/Managing Director & work closely with other practice leads.

The role will involve:

  • Defining the role of the Development team, in partnership with the This Place Directors
  • Shaping and recruiting (permanent and contract) the dev team to meet demand
  • Leading, mentoring, motivating and guiding the team
  • Developing team members so they can progress their careers
  • Reviewing team members performance and ensure they work efficiently
  • Bridging between the dev team and the business *

Main requirements

Have technical capabilities:

  • Making technical decisions (for example which stack or toolchain to use for which projects)
  • Discussing technical requirements with clients and creating necessary documentation and
  • business development support material
  • Experience in front-end as well as back-end architecture
  • Experience in single page applications based on Angular as well as multi-page applications
  • Experience using GIT, Javascript frameworks, as well as Javascript without frameworks, CSS pre-processors, Bootstrap, Grunt
  • Knowledge in creating, maintaining and documenting coherent server-side and client-side APIs

Be comfortable with managerial tasks:

  • Attending internal and external meetings, in the UK and abroad
  • Helping shape business processes and procedures
  • Paying great attention to detail and putting measures in place that the team’s output is at a
  • high standard
  • Estimating tasks and managing resources
  • Managing expectations of team members as well as This Place leadership in the UK offices
  • as well as abroad

Nice to have

  • Stack: AWS, JavaScript (node.js) Angular and Vanilla JS/CSS/HTML
  • Experience of software testing/TDD
  • Some experience of backend development/integration
  • Experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM)
  • Experience with SAP Hybris
