The Role

The Technical Lead position reports to the Head of Development and is a senior developer role with technical and line management responsibilities. Essentially, you'll be the technical authority for your team of developers.

A bit about what you may be doing

  • Working in a collaborative, Agile, team environment on a range of different projects from e-commerce websites to SaaS enterprise solutions and tools.
  • Leading a technology team and liaising with the wider business to effectively complete these projects
  • Contributing to the Technology strategy and architecture by suggesting new technologies, techniques and solutions

Technology Ownership

  • Accept responsibility for technical delivery and architecture of selected products
  • Accept responsibility for the quality of delivered products
  • Sit on the Architecture board in which you will expected to:
    • Provide insight and ideas into the adoption of new technologies/processes/solutions
    • Represent the technical challenges of the project team you are leading
    • Propagate the decisions made by the Architecture board to your team


  • Participate in recruitment processes by interviewing candidates for technical positions
  • Coach and mentor less experienced members of your team
  • Be responsible for individual performance measurement and career progression plans
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and advancements and communicate those with your team

Engineering best practices are adopted and maintained including, but not limited to:

  • Test-first design
  • Pair programming + code reviews
  • Continuous integration
  • Secure development
  • SOLID principles and design patterns

Project Overview

  • Perform the ScrumMaster role where appropriate
  • Lead software projects through all stages of the life cycle
  • Work with the Product Managers to define and refine technical requirements
  • Monitor and report progress within the team and to management
  • Act as a point of technical escalation and resolution

Main requirements

  • Experience in some of the following technologies (as our stack is malleable and not fixed!):
    • Back-end: C#, Node, MVC.NET, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, SQL Server, RabbitMQ, Jenkins CI, Gitlab
    • Front-end: KnockoutJS web components, AngularJS, Gulp, Bower, PostalJS, karma, jasmine, LESS
  • Degree in a technical discipline like Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, etc.
  • Experience in engineering best practices such as:
    • Test-first design
    • Pair programming + code reviews
    • Continuous integration
  • Experience of working in an Agile environment (SCRUM/XP/lean)
