We are looking for a Senior PHP/MySQL Engineer to join our rapidly growing team, located at our offices in South Bank, Central London.

You are a smart PHP developer with a narrow focus, a preference for working with JSON consuming, RESTful APIs and your PHP knowledge is deep and broad. You have at least 4 years industry experience designing and building the backends of a variety of web applications. Crucially, you should be very familiar with one of the major MVC frameworks. You should also be confident in your use of MySQL with a mature understanding of schema design, indices, and performant SQL.

Working alongside others as a key member in our growing team, you would directly contribute to the success of client and company-driven projects, designing and building new applications and features. You should be comfortable engaging with senior management to gather requirements, estimate task sizes, and manage expectations.

Your first - and main - responsibility will be to maintain and develop new features for our microservice backend APIs (written in Laravel and Lumen 5), used daily by international public and private sector clients, as well as tens of thousands of private individuals.

Main requirements

  • PHP 7 with Laravel / Lumen 5 (or similar experience in Symfony, Zend, etc)
  • MySQL
  • Version control (Git)
  • Unit & E2E testing
  • API development

Nice to have

  • Agile / SCRUM
  • Linux CLI basics (e.g. Apache / PHP configurations)
  • Grounding in maths / statistics
  • Hadoop / HDFS / Impala
