So first off, a bit of background...

We are operating a micro-services architecture on AWS using Docker where services and changes are continuously integrated and deployed by our CI/CD pipelines. It is implemented with Mesos, Marathon/Chronos, Jenkins, Ansible and Cloudformation and several other services that AWS provides.

What are we looking for?

We are on the lookout for a Senior Devops Engineer who will work amongst our brilliant DevOps team. Reporting directly to our DevOps Lead, you will be maintaining and improving our infrastructure and together with a member of our development team, will collaborate to share knowledge about our underlying infrastructure when necessary. You will also assist with the deployment of additional services that require infrastructure changes.

What will you be doing?

  • Developing a deep technical understanding of our current AWS infrastructure to provide support to team members and development teams
  • Providing coaching and mentoring to more junior colleagues
  • Helping to evolve our infrastructure and assessing and adopting new tools and technologies that are part of our strategic roadmap to improve and enable future changes
  • Assisting the development & deployment of additional services that require infrastructure changes. You will be collaborating with your team to design, develop, and sometimes coordinate their implementation
  • Be proactive by initiating and participating in discussions that are aimed at improving our systems and make them more resilient, performant, easier to maintain and easier to understand
  • Be part of the weekly rotation of the DevOps team for out-of-hours support of infrastructure components for the rare occasions something goes wrong when we’re out of office
  • Promoting and facilitating continuous delivery of the changes going out as it makes our systems more consistent, easier to understand, and reduces operational risks

Who are you?

Because we work in Agile, and our Technical team is composed of a number of different teams within it, collaboration and team participation must be really important to you. You must be a detail-oriented person, organized and have a keen eye for accuracy.

We are also looking for someone who is keen to learn new technologies and has an interest in pairing with other developers or devops when the need arises as pair-programming is something we actively promote here.

Main requirements

  • You have worked with Linux systems before and consider yourself experienced, efficient, and self-sufficient
  • You have maintained a production environment composed of highly-available systems.
  • A good understanding and experience of AWS services is recommended as it is where our current platform is deployed. If you have substantial experience with other cloud providers, we can help you and get you up to speed with AWS
  • You appreciate the benefits of configuration management, orchestration and automation and consider these aspects in the work you and others deliver
  • You recognise the importance of monitoring and the role it plays when working with high-availability systems, are familiar with concepts of alert fatigue and seek to keep our monitoring platform efficient in the long-term

If you are looking for a working environment where you can make a difference and actively contribute, this role will be for you. We are a tech-enabled team, producing software that helps connect the UK with over 5000 small creative businesses.
