The Team

Lift London, based in Paddington, is home to a growing collective of world-class artists, software engineers, designers and creative technologists. We are a globally focused creative studio designing and developing the future of how people interact with Microsoft’s devices and services, via desktop, mobile, VR and AR.

Recently we shipped Paint 3D as part of the Windows 10 Creator’s Update, but that’s just the beginning. We have grand plans for how we’re going to evolve it and deliver new experiences and are looking for people who want to join us in our mission to bring 3D to everyone and inspire a new generation of Windows users.

The Role

The Technical Artist role is key to transforming the visual direction and aspiration for our 3D environment and spaces into reality. Through knowledge of the technology combined with a passion and ability to create solutions, you will bridge the gap between artists and developers to create beautiful best in class 3D environments within out products.

Forming a core part of our team, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Art Director, Creative Director and a team of Designers, Software developers and Program Managers to inspire, drive and support the art vision and direction through all stages of production.

Main requirements

  • Deep understanding of the technology behind rendering - how to write shaders in common languages like LSL and how PBR rendering works

  • Ability to debug and code using tools like Unity to prototype ideas and concepts as well as help engineers to investigate issues

  • Proficient in C# and Unity to help create demos and prototypes

  • Have a basic understanding of C++ code for debugging

  • General ability to create 2D and 3D art for prototypes and paint content

  • Understanding of some form of offline renderer

  • Self-starter with excellent time and priority management skills with proven ability to take ownership of features and assess the requirements

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to respond and adapt quickly/efficiently to creative changes

  • Versatile with superb creative credentials and a passion for all aspects of the creative process

  • Proven relevant experience

Nice to have

  • Experience with VR/MR is an advantage
  • Deep knowledge of shader programming in unity's CG, HLSL or CGFX is also a fine alternative
