This is a leadership role and you will work closely with the CEO, CTO & CMO of JUMIA. As such, this is a huge opportunity to make your mark.


  • In strong collaboration with a dedicated Product Owner, own the development and maintenance of a functional area / technical module in Jumia’s technical stack
  • Lead your team (4-8 developers): coach, mentor, evaluate
  • Hands-on, write code 50% of your time, faster and better than your team
  • Own and develop a team sense of ownership on deliverables
  • Collaborate with QA Analysts and QA Engineer teams to develop in your team a strong commitment to quality and automated testing practices
  • Manage technical debt and communicate clearly on the tradeoffs
  • Respect and participate in improving development and delivery processes in the product team

Main requirements

  • Work experience at least of 4 years
  • Expert in one of the the following stacks and knowledgeable in the other / Java and PHP
  • Experience in distributed systems and Service Oriented Architectures
  • Experience on front programming (HTML/JS/CSS)
  • Relational and non-relational database experience
  • Strong communication skills
  • Interest in understanding functional requirements and associated business processes
  • Experience in Agile development processes
  • Sound theoretical skills in the field of Computer Science
  • Leadership skills
  • Technologies (may evolve): PHP, Java, Rabbit MQ, MySQL, Docker, AWS,
