We’re looking for a passionate and energetic Software Engineer that is ready to develop their existing skills by working alongside a creative and dynamic Applications development team on a range of ambitious and innovative projects.

Purpose of the Position

To support the e-Commerce platform. To architect and implement enhancements to key systems that underpin the business. You will be a key resource in ensuring that the e-Commerce systems are capable of sustaining the growth and development of the business. Disciplines include: systems administration, database administration, systems architecture, systems implementation, datacentre management and project management

Main duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide local IT support in the Porto office to all colleagues as part of the initial phase of the Hostelworld expansion in Porto
  • Collaborate with colleagues in development and engineering to solve complex problems and deliver robust / scalable / secure platforms
  • Provide systems administration for the Linux based e-Commerce systems
  • Take ownership of issues to resolution demonstrating a positive / can-do approach
  • Liaising with external service providers as necessary
  • Designing, building and maintaining the next generation of the e-Commerce systems

Essential Competencies:

  • Excellent analytical / problem solving ability in a complex e-Commerce system with a global customer base
  • Flexible and adaptable in the approach to address customer and business needs
  • Desire to learn about cutting edge technologies and apply them to our systems
  • Ability to work under own initiative or as part of a team

Main requirements

  • A minimum of 2.1 in a Computer Science related degree or related qualification
  • 7 plus years of IT experience
  • 5 plus years in a global e-Commerce technical systems administration role
  • 5 plus years administration of an enterprise Linux platform
  • Experience with common virtualisation technologies
  • Experience in supporting 24x7 e-Commerce systems
  • Experience with Open Source technologies
    • Detailed Apache / nGinx web server configuration / administration experience
    • Detailed MySQL Database server administration experience
    • Detailed Linux experience (Redhat, Centos, Scientific Linux etc)
    • Detailed Networking experience
    • PHP Hypertext pre-processor experience
  • Experience with designing / implementing enterprise monitoring solutions
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one of:
    • PERL
    • Shell scripting
    • PHP Hypertext pre-processor
    • Ruby
    • Python
  • Experience with ITIL / Lean Six Sigma a distinct advantage
  • Experience with PCI DSS / Sarbanes-Oxley / HIPAA a distinct advantage
