Speak the language like you’ve always wanted to. Changing the way the language learning is done is a great challenge, so we are looking for Data Scientist to join our Berlin office.

Babbel is building up an advanced Data Science unit sharply focused on long-term projects, innovation and cutting edge methodology. Our goal is to use state of the art machine learning and statistical modelling to analyse and predict our customers, our markets and the mechanics of our business.

We can’t wait to see what you make of your job, for starters these will be your responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and deploy predictive data services and machine learning models that create business value – providing insight, reducing cost or growing revenue.
  • Increase accuracy of direction setting and business planning with flexible, global predictive modelling.
  • Drive forward the use of machine learning, predictive intelligence and automated decision making with all stakeholders and departments across the company.
  • Drive innovation in Babbel’s way of working with data.
  • Collaborate with other analysts, data and research teams.

Main requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of data science experience with the focus on machine learning and / or statistic modelling, either in a commercial setting or in post-graduate studies (university or research organisation)
  • Strong background in machine learning or statistical modelling (esp. Bayesian methods) as well as applied math
  • Highly efficient in the use of at least one open source, industry standard data science stack, preferably the Python one (SciPy, ScikitLearn, Pandas, PyMC, ...)
  • Strong coding skills in Python (preferred), R or Scala. Skills in SQL. Willingness to learn Python if coming from another background
  • Basic awareness of software engineering and DevOps practices
  • Independent and structured way of working
  • Very good English language skills & at least one foreign language

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of big data technologies (esp. Spark)
