At Amyris Porto we are building the next generation of tools to guide and support synthetic biologists in engineering novel biosynthetic solutions. 


This project is co-financed by Portugal 2020 under the Operational Program for Competitiveness and Internationalization through the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER).


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Combining molecular genetics, metabolomics expertise with computational knowledge to identify, test solutions for challenges in synthetic biology 
  • Working with a cross-disciplinary group of computational biologists, software engineers and experimental biologist to implement solutions as commercial products

Main requirements

  • Holds a masters or higher degree in a quantitative discipline in biology such as systems biology, computational biology or bioinformatics 
  • Is familiar with microbial molecular genetics and / or metabolism
  • Has worked with statistics in biology
  • Has proven experience in building scientific software in Python, Java or equivalent
  • Is pro-active, self-motivated and take ownership of tasks
  • Is a creative and independent thinker
  • Has strong social skills
  • Has strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English

Nice to have

  • Experience with experimental synthetic biology or genetic engineering work flows
  • Experience with working in collaborative projects, with many contributors
  • Experience with software engineering workflows
  • Experience with relational or NoSQL Databases
  • Experience with working with Cloud infrastructure
